Tips for Cleaning Your Carpet to Keep it Looking New
Carpet is expensive no matter where you purchase it so you want to make sure that you are keeping it clean, stain free, odor free, and looking like new. You also want to make sure that you are able to make it last as long as you can before you have to replace it. To do this can be hard, especially if you have children, animals, or the carpet is in a high traffic area. Leaving your carpet dirty not only takes away from the beauty of the room but can start to mold, be home to fleas and other microscopic bugs, stink, and become full of allergens. Any or all of these things can lead to a lot of health problems.
Tips for cleaning your carpet
It only makes sense that in order to keep your carpet looking clean, allergen free, and new looking you need to prevent any unnecessary dirt from getting on the carpet and building up along with preventing spills that can cause unsightly stains. When purchasing new carpet write down the material that your carpet is made from because there are different methods and products to use for each type of carpet material because using the wrong cleaning product could cause damage to the carpet. You should also try to vacuum your carpet every day or two days. If you spill something on it like popcorn, cookie crumbs, chips, or anything not wet you should vacuum it up immediately to prevent it from getting grounded into the carpet.
• Liquid spills–If something is spilled on the carpet you should try to clean it as soon as it happens. Do not scrub the spot vigorously as it can damage the fibers of the carpet and cause the stain to spread, which could become a permanent stain as a result. When something gets spilled on the carpet try blotting the stain using wet paper towels and then place a wet cloth on the stain overnight. If it does not come out you may have to use a carpet cleaning product on it but make sure that it is for the type of carpet you have so you will not cause further damage. You may also have to have it professionally cleaned. Make sure that you do not get the carpet to wet as this will make the carpet take longer to dry and could lead to mold in the carpet pad.
• Mold and mildew—use a solution with an equal parts of salt and non-chlorine beach, which is also good to use on colored carpets, to clean it. If it has gotten down to the carpet pad you may either need to replace your carpet or have it professionally cleaned.
