Truckmount Mythbusters – Myth – Bigger Truckmount Engine Equals More Carpet Cleaning Performance

Truckmount Mythbusters

Myth – Bigger Engine Equals More Carpet Cleaning Performance

The reason heat exchange truck mounts have big engines is to provide you with the heat you need to clean carpet. Some people might argue that they want a bigger engine anyhow to provide more vacuum. This is the myth. A bigger engine does not mean you have more USEABLE vacuum.

Can a Truckmount Have Too Much Vacuum?

The big engine and big blower on heat exchange truckmounts is there to attempt to achieve heat that is close to the heat performance that a fuel-fired system produces. A big blower is used to put a bigger load on the engine to obtain BTUs. This large blower actually is causing the truckmount to have too much vacuum which in turn causes the wand to lock down on the carpet so that it can not be moved. These larger blowers are producing CFM up to 800.

A wand once on the carpet and semi-sealed with water can only move about 200 CFM due to the restriction of the carpet. Due to this excess air and the wand locking down, the glide was developed. The glide has a wider radius lip allowing the wand to move easier but due to the excess CFM, the wand has a narrow slot, about 1/16th of an inch. This produces a CFM choke point in the system that reduces the CFM at the wand so that the wand will not lock down to the carpet. This choke point in the system is reducing the CFM causing 80% of the air to be bypassed through the relief valve. The correct design of a truckmount would be one that does not have too much CFM. Another drawback of the small slot in the slide is that you are not able to remove debris that is on the carpet surface. YES! A truckmount CAN have too much vacuum!
One problem with any heat exchanger is that you are modifying the design of the engine by modifying the exhaust system. This can result in unwarranteed engine damage due to improper exhaust pressures. The Judson TNT truckmount uses a factory engine, factory muffler, running proper exhaust pressures.

For every 500 hours you run a TNT truck mount versus a large engine truck mount, you’ve saved enough money in fuel to buy a spare engine.

Myth — Bigger Engine Equals More Carpet Cleaning Performance BUSTED!

Are you experiencing performance and reliability issues with your truckmount? Call us at 864-233-6442 and ask about our truckmount re-engineering service. In a lot of cases it is much more cost efficient for us to re-engineer your current truckmount than for you to purchase a new one. We get rid of unnecessary, expensive, proprietary parts that cause breakdowns.

Heat exchange truckmounts can not maintain sufficient temperature using a high-flow system under commercial carpet cleaning conditions. We get rid of the heat exchanger and all of the troublesome parts that go with it and replace it with a more reliable propane heating system. We increase the life and performance of your engine and pressure pump. In most cases we also make your machine more economical to operate.
