What Carpet Cleaning Tips are the Most Useful when It Comes to Proper Carpet and Rug Cleaning?

Your floor tends to get dirty over time and kids, pets, or friends and family visiting you generally don’t help. You want to keep your carpet flooring clean but how should you go about it? Without proper advice or knowledge, you might end up damaging your carpet instead of cleaning it.

Carpet cleaning is not only about vacuuming but also about using the right products, the right tools, and the right techniques. There are literally hundreds of tips but we narrowed it down to the 10 most useful tips we have ever heard.

#1 Tip: Place an entrance mat in your house. Wipe your shoes and ask everybody else to do the same. Less soil will enter your home this way.

#2 Use your vacuum cleaner often. Minimum once a week or more frequently if you can so the dust and food debris don’t have time to set in. Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential if you want to maintain a good hygiene and overall cleanliness in your house.

#3: Take care of stains and spills right away. Don’t delay and clean them immediately. Scrape as much as you can. After that, water should be enough in most cases. You can mix some soap with water or if the spill is more serious, try to add vinegar to your water. If it is still not enough, you can try specialized products sold specifically to remove stains of all types.

#4 Get rid of mildew and mold using a mix of lemon juice and salt solution or try a non-chlorine bleach. Choose a hidden spot first to see if it works and if it doesn’t damage your carpet. This is recommended if mildew doesn’t want to go away.

#5 Steam cleaning is key. Buy a deep cleaning machine or hire a pro to do it. Do it once every year or every six months at least. It will also get you rid of allergens

#6 Don’t use electric heat to dry a carpet stain otherwise it might become permanent.

#7 Don’t rub the stains harshly because if you do they might spread. Your carpet fibers could also become weaker and your carpet life will be reduced.

#8 Try using green products if you are environment-conscious and also care about your own health. Fewer chemicals is often better.

#9 Using as little product as possible goes in the same direction. It will also reduce drying time and you won’t risk staining your carpet with the product either. Using dish soap or club soda for cleaning is usually a great idea.

#10 Blot and don’t scrub. Blot before cleaning to minimize the stain and avoid it from spreading. Blot after to dry your carpet because damp carpet can grow some mold.
