Will area rugs scratch hardwood floors?
Joanna (not her real name) – a customer of mine – had a new hardwood floor installed in her home only a month earlier. She loved how the blonde coloured boards gleamed in the morning light as she meandered her way through her living room while clutching a hot cup of coffee with both hands to her chest. As she settled into to favorite comfy chair, she could feel the warm rays of the suns gently kiss her face with a tingly warmth she so loved. Her eyes looked out the large windows on to the horizon and then back to her new floor.
The fact the full cup of steaming hot coffee didn’t spill all over her white robe as she shot up out of her chair was a miracle. In truth the cup should have been hurled across the room were it not for the fact Joanna kept her wits about her.
The scratches she just discovered in her new wooden floor were unmistakable. Somehow the rug had moved unnoticed about 8 inches to the left from it’s original location. The once covered area was now exposed and revealed the ugly truth about her area rug. Underneath her rug was rough as sandpaper and everytime she or family walked on the rug, the underside dug and scratched into the smooth wooden surface as it slowly migrated to the left whenever people walked on it.
