Rug Care
Triple S Carpet, Rug, Drapery & Upholstery Cleaners | Animation
How to remove spots and stains from rugs and carpet, from Triple S Cleaners, textile specialists since 1963…For starters, rug and carpet yarns may have different characteristics, so some will absorb more liquid than others, and stain in different ways. This may make removing stains from one type of fiber successful, while impossible for others. It’s important to mention that it’s always best to take care of spills, spots, and stains immediately after the accident, or as soon as possible…The longer the stain sits, the more permanent they become, sometimes possibly even preventing removal.
Before you do anything, it’s key to remember what to do for a liquid and for a solid material stain. For liquid, start by blotting with plain, colorless white cotton or paper towels. The towel is actually more absorbent than the carpet, so most of the liquid will come out this way. For solids, to avoid spreading, be sure to remove all of the excess material using a spatula, a tablespoon, or if it’s a dusty or sooty material, a vacuum.
It’s always a good idea to pre-test your spot removal formulas in an inconspicuous area. Put a few drops of formula on each color in the rug or carpet and blot with white towel to be sure color will not bleed. If your formula test is successful, use a small amount and blot frequently, be sure not to over-wet and do not rub. Always make it a point to work from the outer edge of the stain toward the center, and have patience… Some stains respond slowly and may require repeated actions.
