Extend the Life of Your Rug with Proper Rug Cleaning

Most rug owners will be surprised by the amount of dirt that is removed from their seemingly clean rug through our cleaning process. A typical rug in New York City contains 37% more airborne pollutants than a rug found elsewhere. Rug cleaning should be an essential process to extend the life of any rug while removing harmful toxins, allergens and bacteria. Only deep cleaning will remove the stubborn dust, pet stains, food stains and odors trapped in the rug fibers.

At Rug Cleaning New York, we regularly clean exotic rugs, Persian Rugs, Oriental Rugs, machine made rugs, shag rugs, FloKati Rugs, Kilims, and everything in between. Our professional cleaning process, safety standards and various techniques will ensure that your delicate rugs are cleaned thoroughly while maintaining their original condition.

In the following video we describe our cleaning process from start to finish to give you an idea of what is happening behind the scenes of a rug cleaning company’s doors.

00:02 Step 1: Measure, Inspect and ID the Rug.

Inspection and documentation is an essential first step in our rug cleaning service. During this phase we make measurements of the rug, identify any damage, stains and other problem areas. At this point we will also talk to the rug owner about their concerns and provide a free estimate for the cleaning.

00:13 Step 2: Identify Cleaning Agents

To ensure that proper cleaning agents are used for your rug, we test for dye transfer and also take a pH measurement. Certain cleaning agents are harmful to various types of rugs. The identification step ensures that proper agents are used for our customer’s rug cleaning.

00:22 Step 3. High Impact Dusting

After identifying the rug, we use state of the art, high impact dusting equipment to remove deep-embedded dust and soil that is typically left behind by regular household vacuums. Our professional equipment will often remove pounds of dust and dirt – a shocking amount considering the appearance condition of the rug when it first arrives.

00:48 Step 4: Pre-Treating the Rug

During the pre-treating stage, our technicians focus on the most troublesome spots such as pet urine and food stains. Spot targeting helps prepare the rug for the bath wash by removing stubborn salts and coloring agents from deep within the fibers.

01:02 Step 5: Thorough Bath & Scrub

Both sides of the rug are washed and soaked in a custom fit rug pool. The soaking process allows for deep grime and odors to be loosened and removed at the next stage. Depending on the type of rug, we use professional grade equipment to deep scrub the rug or simulate the natural flow of a river to flush out the dirt.

01:22 Step 6: Hot Water Vacuum & Rinse

The vacuum and rinse process depends on the type of rug being cleaned. Gentle rugs are rinsed with pure water to neutralize the bath wash. Some rugs are vacuumed with hot water then gently rinsed with pure water only. By this stage, your rug is completely clean!

01:37 Step 7: Drying

Depending on the type of rug, we either hang it out to dry or place it in our temperature-controlled rooms designed specifically for proper drying. This very important step ensures that rugs do not retain any moisture long enough to create unpleasant odors.

Step 8: Grooming & Fringe Cleaning (not shown in the video)

After drying, our technicians will hand-clean the rug fringes to ensure structural integrity. We use rug pile lifters to restore your rug’s nap to its original soft and plush condition.

As an optional step, customers can choose to treat their rugs with fiber protectors and moth proofing agents to protect and extend the life of their rugs.

01:50 Step 9: Inspection & Delivery

During the last step of the cleaning process, we inspect every rug to ensure that it meets our high quality cleaning standards. The rug is packaged and prepared for delivery to the customer’s home! Upon delivery, we will place the rug anywhere the customer desires.

Our work is risk-free and 100% guaranteed to your satisfaction.
